A relative term applied to sedimentary beds variously defined as less than 1 ft (30 cm) to less than 0.4 in (1 cm) in thickness; specif. said of a bed whose thickness is in the range of 2 to 24 in (5 to 60 cm), a bed less than 5 cm but more than 1 cm thick being very thinbedded.
