A general term to include all means of radio signals used for navigation, typically for aircraft, ships, and other transportation systems; for example, the nondirectional Beacon (NDB), long-range navigation (LORAN), tactical air navigation (TACAN), distance measuring equipment (DME), very high frequency omnirange tactical air navigation (VORTAC), the Omega system, and the Global Positioning System (GPS).
