An orthorhombic mineral, MgSO₄.7H₂O ; bitter tasting; forms efflorescences of prismatic crystals, botryoidal masses, or incrustations on cave and mine walls from oxidizing sulfide minerals; also lacustrine deposits, mineral springs, and fumaroles.
